STAND OUT Dance Collective is located in Unity, Saskatchewan and began operation in the fall of 2022 under the direction and administration of Courtney Smith. STAND OUT Dance Collective offers high levels of dance training in many genres for both competitive stage dancers and non-competitive dancers. STAND OUT Dance Collective is proud to be able to provide dancers in the community with elite physical dance training under highly esteemed syllabus associations. Beyond improving a dancers physical health, SODC is a place where nurturing each students’ mental, emotional, and spiritual health is a top priority. At SODC the ultimate goal is to inspire, motivate and educate all of our students each year. STAND OUT Dance Collective offers classes for everyone from pre-school age to adults! SODC Creator & Director
Miss Courtney Smith is the creator and director of STAND OUT Dance Collective. Miss Courtney was born and raised in Unity, Saskatchewan and has been a part of the dance community in her hometown since she began dance lessons at the age of four. Miss Courtney has been dancing ever since and cannot imagine her life without it. Even at the age of 18 when it came time for Miss Courtney to graduate from high school and make a decision about her future plans, she knew dance had to be a part of it. Miss Courtney has taught at multiple dance studios in the area those of which include Biggar School of Dance (Biggar, SK), Revolution Dance (Unity, SK), and Alison Lamont School of Dance (Lloydminster, AB). Teaching at more than one studio has allowed Miss Courtney to gain so much knowledge and experience in doing so. Miss Courtney began testing the waters of becoming a studio owner when she started a dance summer camp in Unity in 2021. Miss Courtney created STAND OUT Dance Camp and turned it into a success which she will continue to do in the future. Miss Courtney took her inspiration from STAND OUT Dance Camp and changed it to STAND OUT Dance Collective. "I felt the word collective was something very fitting for the name of a dance studio, but one I had never heard being used before. A collective is a group of people working as a team. In the dance studio, I always stress the importance of teamwork to my dancers whether they are performing a duet, trio, or group. Even in a solo setting, there must be teamwork and cooperation between the student and the teacher. A dance studio requires a collective mindset and I will always continue promoting that in our name."
